Here is the really tall bridge that crosses from the mainland to the islands near Charleston, S.C.  We were heading to Patriots Point to tour the Naval and Maritime Museum.

It was hard to see as we were climbing up the bridge, but it is really tall and long.

Bob was really excited to tour the U.S.S. Yorktown.  He was stationed on the U.S.S. Oriskany for two cruises during the Vietnam War.  It was decommissioned and made into a fish reef off the coast of Florida.  He has always told me about his ship and the Yorktown was the same class ship which means it was the same model.  So he could explain to me what life and working on an aircraft carrier was like.

Sleeping arrangements for the enlisted.  This is a very open berth, but we couldn't get into the area where he slept which was more cramped and confined.

Enlisted dining.  He says it looks exactly the same as it did when he had to eat his meals here.

Now this is a kitchen!  I guess you had to cook BIG to feed 3,300 people during peace time and 5,000 during war.

The HEAD.

Officers dining area.  They had it pretty rough.

This cracked me up.  These were the prices for food and refreshments at the ships soda fountain.  Of course, the Yorktown was sailed during WWII.

Another "Old Salt" volunteered to take our picture next the F8 plane which was the model that Bob worked on when he sailed on his carrier.

The "Old Salt" himself.

A little history.

While we were touring the flight deck, we were visited by two dolphins.

Thank the Lord that we don't have these signs up in Wisconsin.  These were posted at the Naval Recreation Facility called "Short Stay" were we camped in Moncks Corner, S.C.

Short Stay Naval Recreation Facility had everything you needed.  A bait shop, boat rental, a store, laundry, game room, condos, camping cabins, and' campground with cable TV.  It was one of the nicest places we've stayed so far.

Bob relaxing lakeside while watching the sun set.

It was very nice!  Now it's on to St. Augustine, Florida.
